All right, so SEVILLA (Seville to you English speakers). About a 3 hour bus ride from Malaga, and extremely scenic entering it. Our first stop was a palace, and it had some striking resemblances to the Alhambra, although not as large, and not as ornate. Still beautiful though, and definitely amazing.
Then we went to a cathedral. It's the largest gothic-styled cathedral in the world, and the outside is very impressive. The inside was same-old. The gilded Jesus thing was much larger than 50 feet in this cathedral, it was at least 100. But, I was less impressed with this one than the cathedral of Cordoba. Ah well. Also, there were people living in this cathedral, because apparently the government screwed them out of jobs. Oh, and we saw the grave of Christopher Columbus's second son....and I was not very impressed. Just a plaque on the ground. Until we looped around and saw Christopher Columbus himself! He has four giant pall bearer statues, and a coffin on top, and I was unclear whether the coffin had him inside or if he's buried under all that or what. Still pretty cool though.
Then we had free time, and a choice of climbing a really high tower (and the only remaining part of the Mezquita that the cathedral was built on top of). So I climbed it. 40 levels later, I had AMAZING views of Sevilla. My camera battery was dying though, so I only took one picture from each direction. Then we wandered through Sevilla, looking for a restaurant we had gotten a recommendation to go to from a past student (I think). I got just a tapa, a chicken curry thing...it made me really full actually, despite tapas not being very big. All the protein? No se.
Then we wandered through the shops, AND I DIDN'T BUY ANYTHING. I know, you're all impressed. Then we went to visit a Starbucks (first one we've seen in Spain, as they do not have one in Malaga, Granada, Cordoba, or Ronda). And then we met up with our group again, and Borges took us out for dessert because it was two girls' birthday. I got an awesome chocolate mousse wrapped in chocolate thing, I was pretty content.
So then, we thought we were leaving, but we made one more stop at the Plaza de Espana (which, for some reason, I thought was in Madrid). So time for another nerdy moment with yours truly. There's a scene in Star Wars filmed here, with Amidala and Skywalker walking along. So what did I do? A photoshoot, all over the plaza. We only had 15 minutes in the plaza, so it was really frantic, but really fun. Unfortunately, none of the pictures were on my camera, because it died, but they'll be posted by someone, no worries.
We got back to the bus last, and everyone took a nap for a little bit. Then, it was iPod karaoke time. Which basically means someone picks a song, turns up the volume on their ipod, and sings it really loudly. It's actually hilarious (as long as you weren't trying to sleep), and I took a turn and did A Whole New World with a friend. It kinda of disintegrated from being a game into being the bus singing whatever song they wanted whenever they wanted to. Which is also delightful, and everyone was in a really good mood when we got back to Malaga, which is always wonderful. Now I just have to get myself prepared for this week, I have actual work to do, and it's blowing my mind.

LOL I pictured you spinning around to the actual Christopher Columbus in like breeches and a big hat smiling jovially.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love mass commenting.
Also, I really miss you.
hahahahaha. I never even thought about it that way. Oh man. I wish they were like Americans, and had random reenactors all over the historical places.
